Six University of Paris students gathered in 1833 to discuss how they could help the social justice mission of the Church. They adopted St. Vincent de Paul (d. 1660), who devoted his life to the training and formation of priests and care of the poor, as their patron. Blessed Frederic Ozanam (d. 1853), a husband and father, guided their efforts. Today the St. Vincent de Paul Society includes almost 900,000 members in 130 countries spread over 5 continents.
The members of St. Francis de Sales St. Vincent de Paul Society meet people in need, assess the client’s needs and quietly aid them. The work of our St. Vincent de Paul Society is supported by a quarterly envelope and the poor boxes at the church doors.
